Q: Why does this product contain metal? I just dragged a magnet across the oats, and shards followed.

submitted by VMul - 5 months ago
  • A: It is iron, hence “iron fortified”

submitted bySam - 4 months ago
  • A: Hi VMul! Thank you for your interest in our Earth's Best products. Heavy metals are present in the soil, air, and water, and trace amounts are absorbed by the simple ingredients used to make food products, including fruits, vegetables, and grains. Our stringent testing practices include the evaluation of raw ingredients used to manufacture Earth’s Best products prior to use for heavy metals content, pesticide residues, and potential contaminants, and our internal testing procedures are continuously refined. We also test Earth’s Best finished products. Our products comply with all food safety regulations, and we continue to support efforts to reduce trace levels of heavy metals as aligned to FDA’s Closer to Zero initiative. We hope this helps!

submitted by Helen - 6 years ago

The Hain Celestial Group’s labeling declares major allergens (peanuts, soybeans, milk, eggs, fish, crustaceans, tree nuts, and wheat) and we follow the U.S. FDA’s regulations. We recognize the serious nature of the allergen issue and we strive to minimize risk. Both major and minor ingredients of all products, as well as all processing procedures and equipment, are closely scrutinized and all potential allergen issues are declared on our labeling. Hope this helps, if you have any other questions please call us at 1-800-442-4221 Monday - Friday 9 AM - 7 PM EST.

  • A: Helen, I was concerned about that as well. It's healthier, safer and easier to just get Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free Organic Steel Cut Oats and grind them yourself real quick in a food processor. Steel Cut Oats are much healthier and easier for babies to digest as well. They are milled from the highest quality farm-fresh organic oats in the world. Each batch is handled with care in the dedicated gluten free facility and tested in the state-of-the-art laboratory to ensure the strict gluten free quality standards are met. You can find them online at VitaCost. Take care! :)

Q: Is this gluten free?

submitted by CD - 1 month ago
  • A: Hi! Thanks for reaching out to us. In the supply chain, oats are commonly commingled with wheat. To provide our consumers with full transparency, we have added a “Contains Wheat” statement to our Earth’s Best Cereal. Thank you.

Q: The package says the cereal contains zinc but I can’t find it on the pictured nutrition label. How much zinc is included per serving? Thank you.

submitted by Heather - 3 months ago
  • A: Hi Heather! Thank you for reaching out to us. For information regarding the zinc content in our Earth's Best Oatmeal Cereal, please visit our website (https://www.earthsbest.com/products/oatmeal-baby-cereal). The most accurate information can always be found on the product label. We update our labels based on new nutritional analysis to verify natural variations from crop to crop and at times formula revisions. Our website does not necessarily get updated at the same time. The values on the website are intended to be a general guide to consumers. Again, for absolute values, the actual label on the product should be used.

Q: Why are the following added to the cereal and what are they? alpha amylase (enzyme), tocopherols (vitamin e), electrolytic iron

submitted by LR - 6 months ago
  • A: Hi LR! The alpha amylase (enzyme) ingredient in Earth’s Best® Cereal may help babies easily digest the cereal. The alpha amylase in our Earth’s Best® Cereal is derived from microbial sources. Vitamin E tocopherol is added as a source of Vitamin E. Additionally, it may contribute to keeping our cereals tasting fresh during shelf life. We fortify our cereals with iron because it is so crucial to early development for our little ones. We hope this helps!

Q: Which countries / states is your oatmeal sourced from?

submitted by babeotter - 5 years ago
  • A: Hi Babeotter, thank you for reaching out. The Hain Celestial Group purchases ingredients based on requirements designed to meet rigid specifications, food safety, and compliance with applicable regulations and certifications. We work with known suppliers who assure the quality and safety of their ingredients which are supported by signed affidavits, certificates of analysis, and analytical testing. Additionally, many of our food products receive independent certification from organic and kosher certification third parties.   Although ingredients are predominantly sourced domestically, it is sometimes necessary to source globally. This is due to the fact that some ingredients are not available domestically or the domestic sources are limited based on market demand.

Iron fortified baby oatmeal

LOVE this baby oatmeal. We got it since our doctor said we needed to get iron fortified baby food. Our baby enjoys it and digests it well. It’s helped keep his iron levels normal as he is just beginning solids. It also mixes well with other foods, and we often use it as a thickener.

Do Not Buy!!!!!! As other reviews are saying- my 4 month old projectile vomited 4x and looked so frail. I thought it was from the shots she got at doctors but I fed her this poisonous oatmeal again a month later and same reaction. Never will I ever buy this product. Save your children from this poison. What are these companies putting in the baby food for babies to have all this reaction??? Shame on you Earths Best!

I was recommended to start solids with baby cereal. I bought this and saw "organic" so thought it would be safe. My baby not only hated the taste (mixed with my breastmilk) but she got a rash wherever the oatmeal touched her skin! This was her first solids experience so I let her play with it and get messy and now I'm beating myself up for not doing more research into the product. I wouldn't recommend this to others especially babies with sensitive skin.

I’m the type of person who reads both good and bad reviews thoroughly before making a purchase—comes with the territory of being a personal shopper. But when it came time to introduce my second child to semi-solids, I figured I could trust the overall rating. Big mistake. Out of nowhere, my baby started projectile vomiting, and we’re still recovering from the effects of this product. At first, I dismissed the bad reviews, thinking they were exaggerated, but after countless sleepless nights, I know better. The worst part? My six-month-old broke out in full-body itching, and I didn’t immediately link it to the oatmeal. I mean, baby oats should be pure and safe, right? Wrong. I’m leaving this review because reading others’ experiences reassured me that I wasn’t just being paranoid. If you’re trying this product, please watch for any reaction and don’t hesitate to discard it if needed. Trust your instincts mama.

Avoid!! Please!! for the sake of your baby, avoid this product. I read the reviews and thought maybe my 6-month-old would react differently, but within an hour of giving her this oatmeal, she vomited so badly during her nap in her crib. I immediately stopped giving it to her, but hours later, she is still vomiting. I’ve never seen her this sick since she was born. It’s shocking that so many others have had the same experience. This product is awful—do not buy it!!

If I could give this rating a 0 I would! It made my baby projectile vomit in his sleep causing him to almost choke, non stop throw up for hours & extremely tired. This happened not only the first time we tried the cereal, but the second time too! I should have read the reviews before buying this. As a first time mom, this made feeding him cereal for the first time very scary.

I got the ok from my pediatrician to start an oat cereal for my daughter. I gave it to her the first time in a bottle with breast milk, she seems ok but woke up a lot through the night. I didn’t think anything of it. I just thought she maybe wasn’t ready for cereal at 4 months. She is now 5 months old and I have given it to her twice in a more thicker blend with breast milk before bed. She has woken up both times vomiting about 2 1/2 hours later and doesn’t go back down for hours. This product just isn’t for us. It works for other babies. Be careful when trying.
